Week of September 2–APEX Students Go High Tech
Even though the APEX student regularly use technology in their lessons and projects, this week the Fifth Graders were really excited to use the eBeam for the first time this year. Altruria has a number of new eBeams this school year (thanks, Ms. Johnson!) and the APEX classes will be taking advantage of this “electronic whiteboard.” This week, the Fifth Graders tried out the system using the website, www.freerice.com. Besides learning new vocabulary and helping a worthy cause, each students was able to practice some of the presentation tools (mouse, marker, highlighter.) One group also had time to use the eBeam to analyze the symbols used on Sen. McCain and Sen. Obama’s election websites.
The Fourth and Fifth Graders also brainstormed things they would like to learn about the Presidential candidates. They will start researching the candidates next week and have made documents for recording the information.
