Thanks to all the families who were able to visit the APEX classroom during Open House. The fourth graders shared vocabulary slide shows, the fifth graders showed off their vocabulary iMovies, and all of the students could teach their parents how to solve a Hands On Equations problem. The Fourth graders learned a shortcut for solving Hands on Equations, so now it’s a little easier to solve the problems. They examined the flags of the world and created their own flags to decorate the APEX room. They also worked in groups to research the presidential candidates.

In honor of the Olympics, the fourth grade classes held the APEX Jumping Frog Olympics. The contestants, origami frogs made by the students, competed in several events: long jump, high jump, and across the hall dash. The students had to measure their frogs’ jumps to the nearest 1/4 inch (a fourth grade math skill.)

The third graders had the chance to win a million dollars by playing the APEX Millionaire game. Most of the students won $1000, but four students made it all the way to $32,0000! The Fourth and Fifth Grade bridges are right on schedule. Most of the teams have started putting their bridges together, and one team has almost all of their bridge standing. The Zany Building Company has built all their bridge components and is now finishing their construction.
